I went to private school for high school and one of the positive things that we did was this volunteer program called Read to the Children. A couple of us would go to a 1st or 2nd grade class and we'd read to story to them that was appropriate for the grade. It promoted reading in the young children b/c they saw that there were kids who weren't that much older than them we could read well.

I don't think that that private school still does that program or anything, but I wanted to know if anyone thought it would be a good idea to try & start it up at the local high school that my younger siblings currently attend. It could be part of a volunteer-type of thing and it would be a couple of high school students who are able to read really well to children. And each couple would go into a separate 1st or 2nd grader's class and read a book once a week. It would be a good thing to write on the college application, and it would also promote reading in the children. Should I? Any suggestions?

I always get excited whenever its the first day of school. But when I went to school, my first day wasn't perfect. I am so obsessed on everything being perfect. I was always late in school, but I always get the top. But still I need to learn not to ruin my things so the next school year, I wouldn't worry of being late and I have clean and neat things. What could I do?!!!!

I have my paper of English of class 9 on the coming Tuesday. I am from Karachi, Pakistan. I have learnt each and every thing but still I am curious about the paper. Can you give me some tips to secure the maximum marks in English as English is a subject in which u get the least marks. Examiner cuts marks even without mistakes. So can u tell me what to do to impress the Examiner so that he may be convinced to give me good marks. E.g. The format of the paper, the way of answering questions etc. or some other tip or technique which helped u in securing good marks in English subject...

Please give me ur replies sincerely and honestly..

Waiting for ur responses...
Thanks!!
May God bless all those who answer me sincerely!!

I can't wait to graduate high school so I can go to College in the fall. Anyone else here that can't wait to get out of their high school?? Why?
I can't wait because the administration hates me for no apparent reason, and I have never been in trouble there in the entire four years that I have been there.

My children have a choice between enrolling in a good high school in NJ (JP Stevens in Edison ranked #27) and the #1 high school in CA (Whitney in Cerritos).

They are A students in middle school.

Assuming that all other factors being equal (grades, achievements, awards, extra-curricular activities), will the #1 CA high school give them an edge when applying to top universities?

Does bullying occur more at private/independent schools than it does at state schools or is it about the same?

Is bullying solved more quickly and effectively in private schools than state schools?

Thanks.

A few days ago, the question was asked "What can parents do to help children reach their potential in school?" As a parent of an above average child who with a reading disability, I've found that the best remediation for the population of struggling readers is a multisensory reading program such as Orton-Gililingham or Wilson. I've also found many schools nationwide offer NOTHING for these kids! Many of these children will turn to a life of crime and many are suicidal! The National Institute of Health has conducted many many years of studies on Dyslexia and has found that one in five Americans suffer from this disorder. Also they have found a difference between a dyslexic brain and a "normal brain". There is also studies saying that with early detection and proper remediation, the problem can be fixed! Any suggestions to pursuade our schools would be helpful!
