Primary & Secondary Education - June 2006

Just interested to know what others thought- I know that, for me, grammar school saved me from (and I'm not saying all comprehensives are like this, I know some very nice ones with a high standard of teaching- this is just the one near me) the drugs-drink-smoking school down the road which was the only other school I had a chance of getting in to

I keep hearing that public schools, ostensibly becasue they need more time to reach new testing standards, are doing away with recess. Is this a good idea?

My child is 6 and she has problems with her spelling (written and oral). She has problems with b, d, t - e.g. "bed" "dad" "get" they all get confused.

She is left handed which from speaking with other left handers caused them considerable problems when they were starting at school.

I know that all children have differences in learning abilities and they normally catch up after a while. I am not too concerned but I would like to assist in her learning.

I am hoping that there are some games or simple exercises that she would enjoy and at the same time inprove her spelling.

After 2 years of not getting along with one of her classmates, my child "pants" her at lunch recess because the other child made yet another ethnically derogatory statement about her. This was the first time my child "fought back". I was not immediately notified, but instead they conducted an investigation and called me the next day telling me she was being suspend for three days becasue the principle decided that her presence was a danger to others. Why wasn't she removed immediately the day of the incident then?Nothing was done about the child who made the statements, not even an apology to my child. Is there anything I can or should do? This will follow her in her school records.

I am in charge the school laboratory,i used 2 help chemestry teacher at the lab like prepare things like beacker,acidic etc.so my best friend stole thermometer and i was framed that i am the one.but that other.....was found from another student and we were suspended they said i am the one who deal.so what can i do?COZ HE Told me he was the one after the suspension.

My child is going to kindergarten this year. The public school in my area is good. But I am still thinking about sending her to a small private school and that 's mean that we have to spend about $ 8,000.00 for the school year. I understant that private schools or public schools all have their good & bad sides. Anyone who 's from private or public school, love it or hate it, please give us your experiences. Be aware that the Teacher's Union make it extremely difficult to fire any teacher, whether good or bad.

There was also an interesting case that featured a high school teacher who molested a girl and guess what, he still has his job because of the union.

my child is a grade two student & there is only two sections thats why there are 40 students in a class we parents are bothered that they may not learn well because the class is crowded,i would like to request to the sch.admin that they put up another section so that they can devide the class and the students will have more space to move and learn well.
