Not in today's world! After Columbine and the reality of violence in schools, the idea of 0 tolerance for violent attitudes, behaviors or even pretend behaviors are openly discouraged. I don't agree with suspension, I do agree with removing the toy and explaining to the child that we don't play violent games at school.

Mainly because it creates a "clear and present danger," much like yelling "fire!" in a crowded theatre: though the gun may not be dangerous, it is dangerous because others may not know it is fake and will act as though it weren't. The student may be injured as they are tackled to the ground by a well-meaning official or teacher. If a police officer happened to be nearby and saw the toy gun, they may pull a real one on the student, thinking they are protecting others, which could be a traumatizing event for a young child.
There is also merit to the argument that schools don't want to promote violence. Most schools will not allow plastic knives or swords either, even if they are obviously fake. Schools want to be a safe haven for children from today's violent world.

It is wrong for a student to bring a play gun to school for many reasons. 1. A play gun pointed at someone can bring terror to the person if they don't know it's a toy. 2. If a toy gun is permitted, who can tell when the toy turns out to be real? 3. Toy guns today are so realistic looking including the plastic ones that there can easily be a mistake.

This might date my age, but when I was young, playing with toy guns (Cowboys & Indians or Military games) was exactly that. FUN and GAMES!! Children did not go around shooting classmates or teachers. A toy gun in the 60's/70's looked like a TOY gun, but today, everything looks real. Would you like to be confronted with a gun, in any situation, and have to decide if its real or not?? Then live with your decision!! My view is there is no place for guns at schools.

A toy gun has no place at school. It is still a gun(check the name of it) and stimulates children to role play use of a gun. There are many other ways to play with friends at school that do not involve a toy gun. At many schools, students are encouraged to leave their personal toys at home. The policy means there is not a question of a toy being appropriate for school and disputes about ownership are avoided.

Because it can be used as an imitation of a weapon. There have been to many problems with kids bringing guns to school and they dont even mess around with it. Alot of robberies take place with fake guns and people think if they get caught that they wont get in as much trouble with a fake gun, but it's the same either way. If someone thinks it's real then it is.

Since my children were born. I have never allowed them to play with anything that resembles a gun because of all the children that have shot there sibling or friend. My husband has ran ambulance calls over the years on these children. I would never forgive myself if my child shot or was shot by another child because I didn't tell them how dangerous guns are. I think that playing with guns promotes a very dangerous behavior.

Why is it against the law to joke about bombs in an airport? Because bad things have happened with real bombs on airplanes and real guns in schools. Schools do not want to chance a fake gun being mistaken for a real one and student being shot or killed by police as a consequence.

Any kind of weapon, either pretend or real should not and is not allowed in school. To let school age children bring weapons to school real or not is creating problems when they get older. If you were told that a child who plays with toy weapons is 10 times more likely to play with real weapons at an older age, would you still allow your child to do so? Weapons DO NOT belong in school period.

I think it could create a dangerous situation. If word gets around some one has a gun and the authorities are called in, it could create havoc and some one could end up getting hurt to say the least a suspension. Like the saying goes if you want to be cool don't play the fool.
