Yes teachers get paid, but I believe they are undercompensated for the job they do.
How many teachers leave their work at the end of the school day? Many take home tests, homework assignments, etc, so they can be graded in time. Or plan lessons for the next day over dinner.
The work they do is invaluable. Teaching important skills such as math, reading, social studies, lessons that will be needed lifelong for all of us.
And today, not only are they teaching our young, but they have to deal with disruptive behaviors, angry parents, overcrowded classrooms, etc.
I think the jobs of teachers are more important than the best actors, sports heros, and other entertainers, though they are paid far less. So yes, we should recognize the teachers.

No, we don't have to celebrate teacher's day. It is not mandatory. It is only done out of respect and appreciation.

You also don't have to celebrate any other particular day or person. Again, it is your respect and appreciation that should be the driving force towards the celebration. We happen to have some days set aside for particular people.

Interestingly enough, Mother's day preceded Father's day. The peson who came up with Mother's day strongly opposed having Father's day. After that came grandparent's day, secretary's day, teacher's day, principal's day, second leutenant's day, administrative assistant's day.

This went on further, so now we have weeks, such as fire prevention week, engineer's week. We also have Black history month. The list goes on. At this point there is probably a special cause for just about every month and week, or a month or week or day for every cause. It is a common honor for a village, town, state, or whatever to set aside by proclamation a day for a particular cause.

About the only one left out was poor old Dirty Harry. He kept telling people "Go ahead, make my day".

Teachers get paid to do their job and some teachers go above and beyond their expectations. Teacher's day is to celebrate those teachers who have gone above and beyond and have made differences in their student's lives.

we celebrate teacher day so as to remember all their effort they had put in us. they spent so much of their time helping us to prepared for the future. our teacher is like our parent. they care for us and are always willing to help us. so we celebrate teacher day so as to thank them for all their hard work. they put in tremendous effort to help us. we should be grateful and not take thing for granted. even thought they are paid, they some teacher really put in all their effort in helping student. even if they are not paid iam sure some teacher are still willing to help. so we should celebrate teacher day to let them have a fun and enjoyable moment with the student and let the teacher know that the student appreciate their hard work.

Everyone gets paid, but they contribute a lot to the society so we should appreciate it.

Everyone was a student and had a teacher, that means teaching has large impact to the society.

We need doctors too, but maybe they're paid too much so we don't want to celebrate Doctor's day? (in my country, we do celebrate it), anyway when time comes, you'll thank them for their contribution (to your life).

To fill the pockets of the greeting card manufacturers!

Seriously I am a teacher and I'd much rather just have the occasional 'thanks' than some cheesy day made up by the greeting cards industry to fill a hole in the calender!

Hearing "thank you' from a student or a parent makes a teachers day much more than crappy presents.

Teachers often spend many countless hours outside of regular class time that goes unpaid purely for the bennifit of the students. If it wasnt for their hard work most of our population would be bumbling idiots. Heck, even dispite thier work most still are :p You may not see it now, but your teachers will be people that you will look back on and admire...assuming they did a half way decent job

Teachers dont get paid a lot, and they sometimes aren't teacher, they're more like babysitters, depending on the students. We should all appreciate and respect teachers much more than we do.

Teachers are a big part of a lot of peoples lives. Growing up you probably spent more time with teachers than your parents. They are a big influence on everyone. They probably have a day so they are motivated to be good influences.
