Military bases have controlled access gates and secured entrances. They check ID's before letting them enter. Should a concept like this be installed for schools around the country? Like you could just show your school ID to get in. I think it's a good idea. If I'm spending a ton of money on college tuition to go to a school, I want to go to one where I feel safe. Especially after the recent event at Virginia Tech. I mean it's just far too easy for ANYONE to drive onto a college campus or walk up on a campus for that matter. I think if you're not paying tuition to go there or are not an employee of the school, you should not be given access to the school grounds. Is an idea like this too far fetched?

I am planning to transfer to UCR's business admin program or UCI's business economics program. Business is what I want to work in, but the thing that is holding me back from deciding is the rankings. Although I don't want to become an econ major, I feel that UCI's higher ranks will help me land a job easier after graduation.

How important are college rankings for jobs? Does anybody know what the rankings for UCR's business admin program is?

I plan on a attending a prestigious university such as UC Berkeley or Stanford to major in engineering after my general ed. In you opinion, is it best to attend California Polytechnic University: Pomona or University of California Riverside. If you are not familiar with these colleges thanks for your time.

U.S. taxpayers give BILLIONS of dollars to U.S. universities every year to educate their kids but a lot of that money goes to educate foreigners that will take that education that the American taxpayer paid for and go back to their countries just to take away jobs from Americans.

I feel silly, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with the "College Question" and figured I might as well ask random strangers as not.

Right. I'm a junior, and here's where I stand:

- My GPA is about 4.6 weighted and 3.8 unweighted.
- SAT: 600 math, 700 writing, and 800 verbal.
- I've taken two AP/college level courses and will take 3-5 more next year.
- I was accepted into the NHS.
- I'm not really in clubs, but I've done a weekly volunteer thing for three years now.


I have no earthly clue where I want to go or what I want to do or who I want to be. Really. None!

I would prefer to stay on the East Coast, but am thinking about venturing further.

Coed is fine, but I'd also be fine with an all-girls school.

Could any of you fine people provide me with guidance? Advice? Anecdotes? Schools to avoid?

If so, I'm much obliged to you.

What do you see yourself doing in the future if you take this up? Everyone knows that Masscom is unprofessional. She even said that herself.

She even wanted to take up BS Psychology or Computer Science. The only problem is though, her mom's forcing her to take mass com (because according to her you can also learn how to deal with people and be computer literate during the course of its program, therefore you needn't study the two other courses). They've talked about it over and over, but still her mom insists.


I wanna tell her to convince her mom to do what she wants. But is it the right thing to do? Doing this may appear to be sign of rebellion and I wouldn't like that.

If I can't do the above, then might as well encourage her. What's up with Mass Com, anyway? What are the good things about it?

So my situation is this...I am in my third year of college but I still have no clue as to what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. I was previously a nursing major but decided that it wasn't for me. People keep telling me not to waste my credits and find a job in the healthcare profession but the more I volunteer I am realizing that I dislike it very much. This has been a real pain for me because my mom and what seems to be everyone else are expressing great disappointment in me. It's gotten to a point where I've just been avoiding people because I know I'll get lectured. I've spoken to several academic counselors and they keep on giving me generic answers, brochures and other crap that doesn't seem to help. I want to hear from real people what helped them choose a career. I've been volunteering as thats really the best that I can do right now but I really haven't found anything that grabs my attention. How did you choose your career? Also any advice is appreciated.
