not necessarily.

for example, some selective good schools are in or very near not so nice neighborhoods.

Virginia Tech is pretty selective. So is University of Texas at Austin -- the site of the second worst campus killing spree.

I don't think it is a problem related to selectivity.

I think no, most selective schools are selective only on intelligence. and most emotionally unbalanced people are extremely intelligent and would be able to pass the entrance exams.
