I plan on a attending a prestigious university such as UC Berkeley or Stanford to major in engineering after my general ed. In you opinion, is it best to attend California Polytechnic University: Pomona or University of California Riverside. If you are not familiar with these colleges thanks for your time.

Your thinking too far ahead. Your plan is great for setting goals as far as GPA, however ALOT will change in 2 years, especially for someone your age. Your better bet would be to attend community college and finish up your GE's and then transfer to UC Berkeley. Community colleges give you attention, more extra credit as well as prepare you for transfer. On top of that, CC students have priority OVER 4 year college transfers.

There is a website for the courses you need to take at CC to get into Berkeley
www.assist.org

Once you complete the classes (for the particular major), you will be admitted into the major and accepted into the university.

If you attend a 4 year university planning to transfer, you will break lots of bank and possibly ruin your chances of transferring because the courses will be harder (thus making your GPA fall when it is time to transfer, usually you want at least a 3.5)

As far as which college you should attend if choose to go to a 4 year? UC Riverside, because it is part of the UC system and your GE's will be more in sync with UC Berkely making it easier for transfer. Plus their parties are super dope, I know kids from San Jose and Arizona who drive there monthly just for that reason.

My son got his Phd. from Riverside. He loved the school and professors. After graduation he was able to get a wonderful job and is very happy. A plus, he met his wife there, also a Phd.

Of the two listed I'd go with CalPoly for engineering prep work.
