Why does one isolated insident cause you to run in circles yelling "The sky is falling, the sky is falling"?
If you want something to worry about, try this: Every year, over 2,000 people are killed by drunk drivers in the US. You could be next.
If you want to feel safe, never ever leave your house!

That sounds like a good idea, but I don't think it could work. Like for my college, we have three separate campuses, so it's huge, so the cost would be outragous, and tuition would probably sky rocket. And then what about all of the people that come visit the college to see if they want to go there, everyday I see groups of people getting tours of the campus. Then there are the activities on campus, we have over three art galleries on campus, sporting events that are open to public, fundraising events, a hotel, concerts, etc. I wish that something like your talking about could happen but I don't think it is actually possible. The best thing is to have an ironed out emergency plan for the campuses.

Good question! I've been to schools on military bases.
I suppose if everyone who attended college had the same goals it would work - In the military they deal with all kinds of people - if you don't conform to the system chances are you will be dealt with in a way that will surely avoid allowing you to attempt mass murder. The military is a well tuned machine if a part breaks the other parts compensate for the break. The machine wins. If this happened on a military base chances are the list of casualties would be a lot less.

Would you like the city that you live in to have walls, too? And the military walking around to keep you safe? Legislation to protect you from every conceivable source of harm?
Where do you stop? A college campus is basically a small city. You can't be safe every where you go. It is not possible.

And how would that have prevented the events at VT? He was a student and had complete access to the campus. I don't understand your argument.

Do you really want to have to live your life in lockdown and be treated like a soldier when you didn't sign up to, though? Safety counts, of course, but when it's your time to punch out, it's your time, regardless. I'd hate to have to live scared all the time--I even sell a T-shirt that says "Living in fear sucks!" as a reflection of this.

Think how big those places are. VT had 26,000 students. If you think tuition is expensive now, just think how much more it will cost with that kind of security. It's just not practical.

absolutely not, universities are open places of learning where a student grows in a somewhat liberal enviroment, we shoulda all respect that despite isolated incidents
