I want to be a reseracher, and find things like cure for cancer. How would i go about doing that? What should I major in college? Also, if I am not completely 100% sure about being a researcher, can I still became a practicing doctor if I have MD-Phd, after I decide that it is not for me? Also, is MD enough to be a researcher, or do you absolutely have to have a Phd as well?

Math here: 4 years university + 8 years (med school and residency) = 12 years

P.S. not to mention some speciality require more years of residency....

why is it worthwhile? why is it not?

Would you go for it if you have the chance?

I was thinking about medicine but then I decided this is not what I really want to do. I would love to work for a pharmaceutical company developing new drugs. What do you think?

if not, what are the differences?

2007-02-07 14:55:26 · 4 answers · asked by Anonymous

I know the difference between both and I've applied and been accepted to both programs. Pharmaceutics is in schools of pharmacy and pharmacology in medical schools. Both are Ph.D. programs. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into which would be a more beneficial degree if I wanted to get a position in industry working for Merck, Pfizer, GSK, etc. I am not sure which to accept. Also does getting the Ph.D. in a school of medicine differ greatly from obtaining it in a school of pharmacy? Convince me of one or the other.

What colleges should I aim for if I were looking to do something in Psychiatrics? What Highschool classes should I try and take? Anything else that would help me get in? I'm looking for a decent college that doesn't cost too much money. And if you don't have any advice about things like that I'd be glad to hear a story from anyone who is in psychiatry about where they went to college and what they had to do to get there.

Thanks!

Other Details:
In 9th grade
Pulling Mostly B's expecting A's in the second semester
Play soccer
And I'm really interested in psychology and psychiatry and I've asked some of my friends and they all seem to think I would make a good psychiatrist.

So I've been at this small private college for the past year and a half. But now, I'm really starting to hate it. I only have 3-4 semesters left to finish, but to be honest, I dont want to. I'm thinking about transferring to my community college back home for MUCH MUCH cheaper. Right now, I'm debating on what I should do. Most of my friends tell me to transfer if I dont feel comfortable here anymore. Any advice?

Okay, I am 2nd in my class at a small private school, 4.0 GPA, high test scores, etc... and I could basically go into any career that I want. I really want to be an architect, but I keep hearing that it is a horrible career and the pay is terrible. I don't really care about the pay, I just want to have enough money to travel and support myself. I was wondering- am I making a bad decision and wasting my talents on something that isn't worth it? Or should I go after architecture with all of my heart and see where it takes me? Please help me with this dilemma.

Any one know if there is a better online degree program for Military personnel other than UofP? I am in the Coast Guard in Port Security, so my schedule is very chaotic. I want to further my education but a traditional school is impossible. I read that online degrees aren't worth it, but I also heard that it doesn't matter with life/work experience. Any one have any input on the matter? Thanks in advance.

I am considering getting a bachelor's in either Political Science or Philosophy. Which major do you recommend? I realize everyone says a philosophy major is useless, but is political science any better? I guess, out of the two, which would you recommend?

I am wondering how hard it would be to try to go to med school if I have graduated as a Fiannce major with a 3.2. I am 24 and I am making a decsion on either trying for law school or do my pre recs. for med school and take a crack at that. I am not 100% sure what I want to do it will be either of those If I can get into somethiong decent. My question is, is it possible to try to go to med school while being a graduate of Finance and is it worth doining all the work? I am still trying to find the right path any guidance would be appreciated.
