I am a 15 year old sophomore who wants to study music as a major in college. I know the guitar fairly well (I would say I'm proficient) and I know very little about the piano. I can read music while I play it on the piano at a very slow tempo, and do not have very many classical pieces to my reportoire. I would get music lessons in order to advance my knowledge for the piano, but the problem is I live in an extremely rural area, and there aren't any offered for miles and miles. (literally!) So, I'm thinking, if I want to study the piano and guitar in college, do I have to be really good? Or will the college (an average music major in a state university...not Julliard, Yale, or something fancy) provide me adequate lessons and then test my progress through the semesters?
I guess I could just say this: How good does one have to be at their instrument in order to gain admittance into a music major program at a standard college? Answers are appreciated!!!!!!!!!
