Chicago has a community college system, an expensive and exclusive public university (UIC), and a host of pricey private universities. Why on earth does a huge metropolis not have a low-cost, open admission university system?

I am considering pursuing a PhD in French Linguistics. One of the career options in this path is teaching at the college level. However, I'm not sure that I would enjoy the research and publication required of university professors. Are all professors required to do research?

A follow up question: can a PhD in French Linguistics teach French more generally, or would my career become limited to schools that have a French Linguistics program?

i am a journalist. i recently enrolled ta the university and got a master's degree in journalism . And that is when my problem began. i used to write excellent prose, filled with emotions and style. but after my potsgraduate degree, i dont write as well anymore. technically my writing is good. but it is mechanical and lacks life. i believe i av learnt too many rules at the university! what should i do to go back to my former state?

I left high school without finishing and now I regret it! I am almost 27 and want to get out of the minimum wage dead end job rut.
What do I do?
I have always had an interest in law and psychology but I do not have years to invest (due to my age)
I am looking at an advanced diploma in criminal justice (2 years full time)
I'm not up with the lingo, do you think this could get me somewhere?

and there is a 20% grade for pop quizzes.

What would I need to do in order to get a 2.5 for the class? I mean how much room do I have to mess around with the Final, or what is the best grade I could get if I only get:

70% on the final and 85% on the remaining 20%,

If I decided to drop the class....should I re-take it the next quarter so what I learned is fresh and work on what I missed in the mean-time?

I really need help on this one!

am very interested in travel/tourism which makes me want to go to school to become a Hospitality Manager.. for those who don't know what that is.. Hospitality Management is a manager who works in Hotels, Resorts, Motels, anything dealing with travel/tourism and they also work in the food industry.... Now with that.. I'm not sure if its a demanding field and if it would b good n the future or a good living.... My question is should I go to school for that or go into a career that I know is demanding but I'm not interested in it, which would b the medical field.... thanks a lot ppl...
