Do not give up! You were very young when this happened and people will judge by your exemplary conduct since.

One of my cousins married a young man who was incarcerated at 18 and she married him as soon as he was released, admittedly to the concern of her immediate family. He has never again been in trouble. Not only has he earned her a good living but they are now quite affluent.

I would say that you should select a major that will lead to an occupation where you will never be embarrassed if this comes up, such as working with computers, etc.

I wish you the very best of luck.

Look at it this way: while in college, you involve yourself in upstanding impressive social / civic events and clubs--all the while maintaining impressive GPA scores, I think your efforts will note you're a positive person on the fast-track of success.

However, you must be realisitic: without a Governor's pardon / expungement, doubts exist you will effectively pursue a career in criminal justice or even medicine (and in some states, political science is out too).

But all is NOT lost here: there are plenty of solid degrees of study still available for you to earn and benefit life's rewards for the positive hard work efforts you put into them.

YOU have the challenge before you; YOU can BE the positive role model. I know of a former prison inmate who discharged, cleaned up, worked hard earning his business degrees---and years later, became the top insurance salesman in his state!!

The guys is NOT urban legend: he's happily married and a near millionaire by his own right. If he found a way to make it, you can too.
