My husband graduated from a state college 3 years ago. He had a double major in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems with a 3.4 in both. He has had his own business and is a very strong student. He has no graduate studies, but would like to go straight into a PhD program at an Ivy League University. Do you think that being a black male might help differentiate him from the other students? We have looked at many different colleges and there is a serious lack of black people in advanced degree programs...do you think that will help or hurt?

I am a college student and I am soooo burned out. I've only been going for 2 1/2 years. I still have 2 years to go! I have to force myself to do homework or study. All of my work is done at the last minute and I dread going to class sooo much! I am on my last semester of basics, so next semester will be better, but what can I do in the mean time to be a little more motivated. I still have a 3.86 GPA and do very well in school, I just really do not enjoy it anymore! Anyone else like this?

I'm applying to law school and everyone says don't pay attention to the rankings and numbers. Well without the numbers or rankings what am I supposed to do? I can't visit all 200 schools.

BTW, I'm not completely lost. I have my list of schools and am currently applying. I would just like to hear from others what they think is important or how they made their final decision.

I'm 26 and a single dad. I want to further my education to better support myself and my son. I want to go back to college, but I don't know what to major in.

After high school I earned an Associates degree in Computer Information Systems. Afterwards, I worked for a tech company for about 5 years. Now I realize 2 things: a) the Associates degree just doesn't cut it and b) the IT industry isn't for me.

I'm thinking about majoring in English. I just don't want to waste my time and money. I don't particularly have a passion for English, yet there is nothing else I can say I have a passion for either. I've been wanting to go back to college for over 4 years now, but this indecisiveness has been holding me back. I'm thinking that at this point it may be best just to go for English. I mean, I could have already earned a Bachelors by now. Even if it wasn't exactly what I wanted, atleast it would have been something. And, I can always go back to school again. What do you all think?

If money WASN'T an issue, and I'm planning to major in the humanities, which is better? I'm not really referring to HYP here, but Ivies like Cornell, Brown, and Columbia.

Which has the better reputation?

I'm a west coaster, so I don't hear much about the east coast colleges. All I hear about is Berkeley and Stanford.

I need to write a paper on a technology invented/developed in Philadelphia like Baldwin Locomotive Works, or water works for my history of technology paper. I am so confused, and 'googled' for it, but I can't find anything. It can be invented by one and can be anything, as long as it has some connection to Philadelphia. Just a topic would be great? Please, I am desperate !!!

I'm thinking of changing of careers to univeristy professor. I have a masters degree in finance from Golden Gate university. I have an undergraduate degree from a UC. I was thinking of trying for a PHD. How important is the school I earn the PHD from in regards to finding positions? For example if I went through an accredited but online based PHD program like would that still afford me the similar opportunities? I like the convenience of online work. I guess I'm basically asking if any accredited PHD program will do the trick or if it is only highly regarded insitutions are that marketable? I'm thinking of positions with cal state schools or similar schools.

I'm in my late twenties and have quite a few years experience working in IT. Starting to feel that a degree really would be beneficial, even if the first couple of years I'll probably learn stuff I already know. Suggestions on weather you think an IT / Business degree could be the way to go for me? I am leaning towards a three year full time degree, just to get it over and done with. Thanks for your comments.

How did you handle it? I never have....but uuumm this semester has not been going so well. I want to drop the class, but i'm afraid of the repurcussions. How can I bring up my GPA (which is in great shape) and get back on track at school? Will employers be turned off by the fact that I have that grade on my transcript?

I was recently accepted into PhD programs in Health Education/Public Health at both Bloomington In and Carbondale IL. Carbondale is not as prestigious but does good research and the cost of living is lower. Bloomington also does a lot of great research and has some amazing facilities. But, it is more expensive to live there. I have yet to be offered financial assistant from either institution. But, will most likely be offered teaching assistantships from both.
