Why does 3 1/2 + 4 2/3= 8 1/6?

3 3/6 + 4 4/6......= 7 7/6 which is 1and 1/6 puls the 7 so 8 1/6

You must make the fractions the same: in this case sixths. Therefore 1/2 turned into sixths is 3/6 and 2/3 into sixths is 4/6. I hope that makes sense. Then do the simple addition 3/6 plus 4/6 equals 7/6 or 1 and 1/6. Plus the 3 and the 4 gives you a grand total of 8 1/6...................
