Quote from an online article:

"Gayles was one of five students denied diplomas from the lone public high school in Galesburg after enthusiastic friends or family members cheered for them during commencement."

I think this is ridiculous. What about all their hard work to meet the academic requirements to graduate? The should only be held accountable for their own actions not the actions of others. Whats next? Next year will school administration tape the family members' mouths or bind their wrists so they can't clap too loudly?

I attend private school and have a mixed opinian about this question. For me it's great - I got Scholarships and bursarys and it helped me get great exam marks. On the other hand some people at the bottom of the year get paid into the school by rich familys and waste an education by messing around. Should these schools be only available to people who will work?

I love children and would love to work with them so I have decided to become a Pediatrician or Pediatric Nurse. But I don't think I can survive medical school. I don't even know if I can make it in college. I have few minor set backs, I can't spell, pronounce or do math in my head very well. I was born and raised in Nigeria and when I came to the U.S I was barely able to spell my middle name ( Rosemary).
I tried really hard to improve in everything including learning English in less than 1yr. I made honor rolls all throughout middle school, and recently graduated from High school at the top 10 percent of my school and winning a presidential award signed by President Bush! But now college is on its way and am doubting whether I can make it. How can I go to college and get a good job if I have troubles spelling, pronouncing, and doing easy math in my head?

I've received a couple of emails / phone calls this year and I don't understand why they think having mommy or daddy call will get the professor to change a grade. Don't they realize that it hurts the students' credibility and decreases the likelihood of any change? Of course if the reason for bad grades is something truly significant, that's one thing, but even then if the student is an adult shouldn't he/she be responsible for his/her education without parental interference?

What does it take to get into an ivy league college? The valedictorian at my school as well as a kid with a class rank of 12 got into one.... USA Today featured an article with the American all Academic Team, and those kids accomplished things that most people wouldn't do in their lives. Needless to say mostly all of them got into Ivy League Schools..

So, what sort of SAT scores, GPA, extracurriculars, etc.. does one need to get in?!? THANKS!!
