Are the schools there as bad as some people claim? I will probably go to a public school (for highschool). What is the best highschool in that general area?

Florida has its own comprehensive set of examinations called the FCATs. You can easily see from the Miami Dade schools website (see link below) which schools have students with the highest average marks in the major subjects.
You can also read the district's policies on which school you may attend.
{In Florida, there is one school district for each county. There are also publicly funded charter schools, some of which may be accepting students. Try Googling for them, being sure to specify "miami" and "florida".}
