For three days my 12 yr old (6th grd) daughter & classmates worked in groups in the library learning to use research materials & conducted research in different subjects. At the conclusion of the 3 days the teacher asked if anyone wanted to share what they had learned. My daughter raised her hand & started to tell about Harriet Tubman carrying a gun & how she helped slaves. She said, "She would shoot them if they turned black, I mean back." She then covered her mouth & let out a short giggle out of embarrassment. Her teacher then said, "That is the most racist comment I've ever heard. Take your books & go to the office." My daughter received an in-school lunch and that class suspension and a suspension from the class for one day. The teacher said during the time in the library my daughter's group had been disruptive. If so discipline is appropriate. She is on medicine & has enough difficulty without the teacher insinuating my daughter is a racist. What should I do?

I'm a student at a state university. I'm wanting to take my harder classes in the summer. I'm wanting to take those summer classes at a community college because I've heard the classes are easier there, not because of financial reasons. My concern is that by taking the classes at the community college, would I be limiting myself in any way when it comes to job prospects? For example, would I be inferior to other job applicants because I had taken classes at a community college? Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

A change-in-command during the final weeks of the holiday shopping season probably would have rattled investors already antsy about the forthcoming improvements to the advertising model.

Also, is this sentence correct? Or it is missing something. I think it should be: A change-in-demand would have rattled investors (already antsy about the improvments) DO Something. What do you think?

I am debating wheather or not to homeschool my children. They arn't school-age yet but they will be soon. What are the pros and cons of homeschooling? Or would a montossori school be better? Private Religious schools are out since I am not religious, and public schools are only a last resort. Any opinions?

My gf's kids told her that no matter how badly they do in school they wont be held back but will be passed on to the next grade. She didnt believe this till a parent teacher meeting to discuss why her son hadnt been bothering to do most of his work, what little they actually assign. Im not sure if the school got the wrong idea or is this a correct take on the no kid left behind act? They confirmed the rumour. Is this true in many schools or is this some kind of horrible abberation?

I am a highschool freshman considering a transfer to a private highschool. The school I'm at now is considered one of the best in the country; academic standards for students are set very high. Sometimes, competition gets brutal enough so that a senior who might have been accepted to X at another school, gets admitted to a community college, because of a low GPA. Classes are large as well, ranging from 35-40 kids/class.

Currently, I have a GPA of 3.5, where I'd probably be getting a 4.0 at another school, but it would bother me to be in a less-than-prestigious highschool. (That's just the way I've been programmed, don't ask.)

It seems to me my only alternative is a private school where more focus will be on me. The one I'm looking at appears to be just as competitive, but the small class sizes must help. Problem is, I don't know which might be better in putting me on the path towards a good (possibly, Ivy League) college. This is a big step I'd be taking; any comments will help.
