My DVD player got struck by lightning and I opened it up and saw that a few resistors got burned up before the fuse blew. I want to try replacing them but their color code bands are gone. Is there anywhere online that shows the values for each component of things? and yes I am too cheap to go buy a new DVD player.

It was working and then it suddenly died. I cannot turn it on. I checked the hepa filter, which could use replacing. Why won't the machine turn on?

Does it have an internal shutdown switch that needs to be reset or something?

Who can I call in the Southern Ontario / Hamilton area?

Thanks,

Andrew

Has anyone ever had a similar situation? I called the company and asked them and they said it was very possible because the hard drive runs 24-7. Now we are stuck with this stupid thing for a year.

Ok, there going to be lot of answers for this one, so if you see the one you were going to say, just vote for it.
My own ideas:
1. IM: we've come almost a decade of commucation technology since the first phone and now we can send WRITTEN messages to people across the room. Progress!
2. Humanoid robots: sure they're impressive and a scientific breaktrough, but do they actually DO anything worth? We spend a lot of funding and thinking just for a toy, methinks.

Yesterday we bought rechargeable batteries and we started by charging two AAA batteries at 3 PM. By 8PM the light which indicates the charging is complete, was still red. Green means the charging is complete. I was wondering how long does it really take for batteries to charge. If it's going to take hours and hours that's going to cost money not save.

I am curious what to do with my battery using devices whilst on vacation. I will be leaving my primary cell phone home, but I want to keep the battery in its best condition. What should I do to prolong the life of the battery? Should I leave it plugged into the charger while I'm gone? Should I remove the battery from the phone? Or should I just discharge the battery before I leave? Thanks.

I have a light/fan combo that allows you to turn them off independently. If I have them both off but the light switch on, will I still be wasting electricity?

I tried to plug the US surge protector extension lead in a step down converter & the surge protector got shorted straight away. Can someone please tell me why? Is it due to the restricted frequency (US @ 60Hz / UK @ 50Hz) or something else? Many thanks.

While one technology advances a rival technology advances to halt it. It should be a liberating thing that we have digital media players but it's not. If all players ran on the same formats or played all formats we'd have few problems. The problem is the record companies and the player manufacturers will not share their customers and play nicely like good little globalized maniacal corporations.

But it's not just media players. There are compatability issues with so many things these days.

HD-DVD vs Blu Ray

ATRAC vs iTunes

Windows Vista - history repeats itself.

Will the corporations will sell more goods if we the consumers don't have to worry about compatibility?

Do you play the brand loyalty game just to prevent these issues?
