My DVD player got struck by lightning and I opened it up and saw that a few resistors got burned up before the fuse blew. I want to try replacing them but their color code bands are gone. Is there anywhere online that shows the values for each component of things? and yes I am too cheap to go buy a new DVD player.

Actually most manufacturers will supply schematics or service manuals for free or for a fee. Contact the manufacturer.

If it really got hit by lightning, you have more problems than a couple of burned resistors. The integrated circuits (chips or IC's) are far more sensitive than the resistors and are fried as well -- guaranteed.

You may be too cheap to buy a new one, but by the time you pay for replacement IC's from the original manufacturer (if they will even sell them -- they might just sell the whole circuit board), you will pay far more than the price of a new one.

Looks like you have something to go on your birthday present list (a new DVD player)...

You'd have to get a hold of the manufacturer and request that information or for a schematic of your DVD player(good luck). If the resistors weren't completely destroyed, they might still retain their values. Try using a meter and reading their resistances. Otherwise you could just chance it and experiment. Either way you have a toasty DVD player, so it's worth a shot.

Most major electronics companies closely guard their circuit diagrams and copyright them so that other companies cannot steal the technology to use as their own (I work in the electrical business). If you won't buy a new DVD player I suggest taking it to a qualified electrical engineer to be looked at.
