Because we safety test things first. It only takes one electrocuted butt here to cause a massive heated toilet seat recall.

consider the size of Japan against the US, you have a densely populated area of people working int he high-tech city with some of the largest electronics manufacturers in the world.
the test market for those manufacturers is their home town.

on the reverse of that the japanese come to north america to test snowmobiles, quad runners etc - why - more land here and more desire for that kind of enterntainment. the average japanese home owner wishes they had enough room to park their car at home (if they own a car)
