I am curious what to do with my battery using devices whilst on vacation. I will be leaving my primary cell phone home, but I want to keep the battery in its best condition. What should I do to prolong the life of the battery? Should I leave it plugged into the charger while I'm gone? Should I remove the battery from the phone? Or should I just discharge the battery before I leave? Thanks.

From what I have read about lithium ion batteries (Li-ion) you should charge up the battery, then discharge it to approximately 40% and store the battery below 60 degrees F. (take the battery out of the phone before storage)

PowerStream Note: Test data confirms that storage of lithium-ion batteries is best if the cell is partially discharged. In one test by Cadex Electronics ( http://www.buchmann.ca ) after 1 year storage at 25°C the non-recoverable capacity remaining is 96% when stored at 40% initial charge level, but only 80% if stored with 100% initial charge level. This effect is reduced at lower temperature and is a non-issue at 0°C. At higher temperatures the effect is much worse. Cadex's recommendations are to store below 15° C at 40% of full charge (2.5 volts per cell).

Don't leave it plugged in, that could be a fire hazard.
I heard that the best way is to run the battery all the way out, then fully recharge it when you return.
This doesn't have anything to do with anything, but if you read in the Law Enforcement section, there's a question about a guy who tried storing some in his stomach. It's kinda funny.
