Yesterday we bought rechargeable batteries and we started by charging two AAA batteries at 3 PM. By 8PM the light which indicates the charging is complete, was still red. Green means the charging is complete. I was wondering how long does it really take for batteries to charge. If it's going to take hours and hours that's going to cost money not save.

The fist time you charge a battery it takes longer. It is completely "dead" when you purchase it. I won't take the next time.

charging batteries slow is the best way and gives more life to them in the long run

some things to consider
- when you first get them the batteries need a full charge - depending on the charger maybe 14hrs
- charge batteries at night while you are sleeping
- if they are NIMH battieries charge them when you get home or after using them
- the rechargeables will out last and out power any regular batteriees you buy so worth the small issue

the charging time varies with the charger. it may take several hours. Make sure you fully charge it before using it every time, otherwise you're gonna shorten the life of the battery.
Don't worry about the cost. the chargers use only a tiny amout of electricity and you won't even notice it
