I have DISH, but don't yet have DVR service or a compatible-receiver, and am wondering if I can just purchase a compatible-receiver, and just plug it in and go.

We have a tv (less then 10 yrs old) that was handed down from my in-laws. Nothing wrong with it. We don't use it very often as it is in our living room and usually behind closed cabinet doors. Once every few weeks or couple months the TV will turn on by itself. It will do it for a few days in a row at the exact same time every day. Then it won't do it for a couple months. Then it will again, but at a different time of day. We have removed the remote from the room and taken the batteries out. We make sure to turn it off by the tv and I have unplugged it numerous times and plugged it back in.

It doesn't seem to fit into any neighbors routines (garage door openers, etc) so we're stumped. I need a good answer.

Honestly, I don't know what a good answer would be. I guess I'm looking for a scientific explanation. I've asked this under "TVs" and I got a bunch a paranormal answers. Like I said, I'm looking for a logical explanation. There has to be one, right?

the little ones that you stick in your ear: do they make the little flap outside your ear canal stick out(and are they harmful for your hearing for that matter. You know the direct soundwaves)?

the ones that wrap around the ear: do they make your ears stick out?

am I being paranoid, or do they affect your ear shape?

I have a 16:9 tv, I am getting dishnetwork, is there an option in the receiver to switch to 16:9 instead of 4:3 so my picture wont be distorted? I don't like running my tv in 4:3 because of the black bars on the size, kind of a waste of screen space too.

I recently received a treadmill for Christmas. When assembling it, I accidentally broke a ground wire. It is a green wire attached to a metal piece. It was supposed to be screwed in with a Silver Ground Screw. It broke at the base.

I was just wondering what I should do. Return the treadmill? Is there a place I can bring it to get the wire reattached? Is it possible to fix it myself? Are there other options? Do you need more information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a phone jack near the receiver and want to know what I can do to get around the phone line issue. I can spread a phone line across the room to hook it up every once in a while but don't want it strung across the living room all the time.

I'm not asking for a wiring diagram but if you could describe the sequence of the connections I would be grateful. BTW, I'm dealing w/75ohm coax on both the antennae (Zenith) and the cable connections. I don't know exactly what inputs are available on the back of the set and/or whether I should connect the antennae to one of those inputs or go through the cable box. If I go directly into the set how will I access channels? Aren't they somethig like 41.6. Needless to say I'm a newbie & need all the help I can get. Thanks in advance.
