I recently received a treadmill for Christmas. When assembling it, I accidentally broke a ground wire. It is a green wire attached to a metal piece. It was supposed to be screwed in with a Silver Ground Screw. It broke at the base.

I was just wondering what I should do. Return the treadmill? Is there a place I can bring it to get the wire reattached? Is it possible to fix it myself? Are there other options? Do you need more information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should definitely repair the wire, since it is used to help prevent electrical problems from injuring you.

Since you broke it, it's not really a good idea to try to get the store to take care of it (unless you're a really good customer and they know you). You should be able to fix it yourself.

You said it "broke at the base." Base of what? The terminal that the screw goes in? The base of the metal piece? It makes a difference when you go to get the repair parts.

Either way, you'd need to strip back a little of the insulation and crimp on something to repair the wire. If the terminal is broken off, you'd need one of those, if the wire is broken in half, you'd need a splice. Radio Shack has a tool that you can use to strip wire insulation and crimp on terminals and splices (link below). They also sell the terminals and splices.

If you have the terminal, take it along and get the same size. If you just have to connect two pieces of wire with a splice, take along one of the wire pieces (and whatever it's attached to) to make sure you get the right size of splice. The people at RS should be able to help you with getting the correct sizes if you take along a sample. Just about everything comes with directions -- just use a few of the extra terminals/splices and some wire (same gauge(size)) to practice once or twice before you go for the treadmill repair.

It's not as hard as you think it might be, it's probably just that you haven't done it before and you can wow all of your friends with your new electronics assembly skills in the new year. Next year -- new car stereo with crimped connections! :^)

get an inline cord splice noted as a butt splice (electric powered dept. DIY) they sell an entire little kit with the pliers and splices in case you desire. if piece floor screw related to is broken off you need to use a self tapping screw to mount onto metallic physique. maximum will say dont trouble it truly is in easy terms a floor cord even nonetheless it would channel a stray volt far flung from you, on a treadmill you sweat salt and it truly is a stable conductor
