Who in this country at least, still has a rotary dial phone at home?

I worked a temp job where I was wearing a pager with voicemail access so that I could stay in touch with recruiters. I ended up quitting there, because the only payphone there was access to there was a rotary phone, so I couldn't dial my pager's passcode!

The line that hooks into the base has 8 wires. Solids blue, brown, orange and green with white with the same colored stripes. The wires to hook up to are green, yellow, black and red. Can someone please tell me how to hook the outside line up to the base so that I have a dial tone? Thank You.

I get an automatic phone call everyday around 8:00 am from someone named Stephanie Jones regarding an important business matter and it leaves an 800 number to call back. The number that it is calling from is 720-974-0386. When I call the 720 number, I get a real fast busy signal. Is anyone else getting this and how do I get removed from the list?

I've been puzzling over this and hope someone who's knowlegable about telephone lines can shed some light. I would appreciate serious answers please. Please do not hesitate to be technical if you have to, thanks!

Is it true that the telephone sockets in our house can actually supply enough electrical power to run appliances? If so, what is the typical load it can supply? Is there an chance that I can overload the telephone socket? What would be the consequence of overloading the telephone socket? Would it affect the whole neighbourhood's telephone network?

If using electrical apliances from a telephone socket were possible, then I have another question. So the electrical power from a telephone socket is not metered is it? If that were true, wouldn't I be able to run appliances using the telephone socket as a power source without paying for electrical bills? Would the telephone network company be able to register an unusually higher load on the telephone sockets from my house?

I have been told that using a chord phone during a storm is dangerous because if lightning struck it could come through the phone line.
I have also been told that using a cordless is also dangerous.
Which is safer, or does it even matter?
