Is there a switch available, or some type of equipment, that will switch a phone line to being off the hook or busy?

I am trying to avoid the beeping sound when I take my phone off the hook. My reason for doing this is to enable "Busy Line Transfer" to forward my calls, which is cheaper than "Call Forwarding".

Thank you.

I have been unable to add cell phone numbers to my residential selective call forwarding. land line numbers are no problem only cell numbers. The system will not upload them.

I am having an intermitted problem with my phone line. The line will go off-hook spontaneously (short) and when I pick it up, I hear a loud low-frequency (very possibly 60 Hz) buzz or hum. Also two of my phone extensions go dead entirely. This will continue for some period of time and then go away. It happens fairly infrequently (making it hard to call someone to come in and look at it). I have disconnected all the phone equipment and it does not go away. Testing at the demarc proves that the fault is in my wiring. Some of the wiring is inaccessible (within walls) and it's probably fairly unlikely that the accessible wiring would have a problem. What might cause this problem and how can I help diagnose it?

Would a dead (or low) battery on my land phone's accompanying cordless cause my computer confusion and disruption? My brain doesn't do technology so please simplify answers and any other info provided. Thanks.

I gave money to the Police Athletic League and now every charity in the world is calling and asking for money. I would never have given a dime if I knew this would happen. I am on a Do Not Call List but it does not apply to charities. Well, never again!!
Any suggestions on how to get my name/number off their lists? Thanks!

We got an offer from Verizon (near Philly) to switch and it's less than the DSL we have with them now. Getting the phone upgraded as well sounds like a win-win. Comments or Experiences?

I have bought two new ones and taken them both back because they get static-y the second I walk outside, while my old 900mhz can go all the way to the end of my backyard with no static. Is this normal? Do you think if I buy another analog that it will work well like my old one, or do you think it's just a fluke? I'm tired of returning phones !
