I already have two cell phones two different carriers and I am not impressed they are unreliable as hell in about any area, you get cut off poor signal, and they are just a damn hassle sometimes, plus you cannot get DSL or high speed internet

I've already asked my mother about phone service in her name, we are planning on getting unlimited long distance since everything we call from this small town is long distance.

do you have more than one phone company in your area? we have two in our little town.... if not you could talk to the phone company and see if they will work out a payment plan on the old phone bill and hook you up a basic landline that has all options and long distance blocked.. and once your caught up you can always have your phone upgraded ... but once you cross this hurdle, take it from me... keep your long distance blocked and get some prepaid calling cards.
If all this dont work.. maybe your mom will get a phone hooked up for you but again i would suggest a blocked one that no one can take advantage of you again

Call the phone company and tell them you want a home phone.
You may have to pay a deposit, but they'll get you a phone.

Do you have broadband? Get a VOIP account from Vonage or Sunrocket, or one of the many others out there. It is just like a land line, you won't know the difference - and it is cheap.

I'm not sure you can unless you straighten out the old bill. If you expect to get a phone that is listed in the directory in your name, then you are out of luck. Good Luck!
