whoever answered was the person answering the phone at the time you hit the redial. the redial is just that, the last number called is called again. it may or may not have been the person you originally wanted to talk to.

Maybe you thought redial was a button for caller ID?
its term expressly tell :redial, re-dial the last number dialed..
not find out the number of the new caller.

My phone has no redial: it lists the last like 50 callers though.
