The area code has nothing to do with the cost of a call. There are many cities that have overlapping area codes where a call between them is free. The cost of a call depends on the type of long distance plan you have with your phone company.

That always depends on the rate plan and who your telephone provider is.

For instance. My telephone provider is Vonage. So I can call the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, Italy, Spain, U.K., Ireland and France for NO ADDITIONAL charge. My bill is also just $24.95 per month.

But AT&T customers can buy a nationwide USA plan, where there are no USA toll charges. (the base fee is higher than Vonage).

Contact your local phone company and ask what the rate plans are.
