For instance, if you have Vonage (or some other internet-based phone line), and your internet service goes out, can you plug an old-fashioned telephone into the wall & call 911 (even if you're not paying for traditional phone service)?

I have heard rumors that you can call 911 from a cell phone even if you're not paying for service, but does the same thing hold true for a traditional land line?

Thanks!

I have a land-line phone but I can't figure out the phone number of it. I've tried calling phones with caller-id with it, but it is a private number so I can't do it that way, is there another way?

If you really have a problem with my opinion, than I envite you to do something about it. If you don't want to go there, than you need to shut your mouth, and keep your rude comments to yourself.
If you consider me a racist than I happily accept your accusations.
BUT, I will NOT tolerate your fowl mouth. If you believe differently than I do, you have the right to say so, but DON'T start no ***** SHitt that you caN'T HANDLE.

I am thinking about signing up for their home Residential Premium Unlimited Plan for $24.99/mouth.(unlimited local and long distant calls with many features like call waiting, caller ID...etc) I have cable ISP already. Is the savings worth the switch? I use verizon now.

I all of sudden for a few days have had terrible static, I'm wondering if anyone has had that problem and what was causing it.

Was it the phone companies problem, or a problem in your house wiring.

Did someone specify prior to the call to hide identity from my phone? I think I recognized the voice, dont know persons name, but If I am correct, it is a bit scarey this guy would find my number and call my house to talk to me. I am concerned, and want to know if it means his number is "unlisted" or if he typed * and some number to have his ID hidden from me.

Hi, let me explain. I worked for a cable company in NJ and we launched cable modem phones. While I was at the costomers house I would go to there NID(phone box on side of house)and plug my test phone in the socket.I would then dial *958 and it would tell me the phone number I was connected to. This was a great help for houses or APT bldg with more the one number in the house. Anyways I'm now with a cable company in East stroudsburg PA. We launched the same cable modem phone service but that *958 does not work here. Does anyone know the code or could you point me in the right direction. They have to have one that the verizon service techs use when there at the customers house. And yes I tryed calling verizion customer support but they had know idea what I was talking about. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Rob
