Why cant you keep your old land line phone number when you switch to a different phone company after the number has been disconnected for months? Its not used by any one else, its just disconnected.

I cut service with my original provider several months ago and the phone number was then disconnected. No one has had the number in months and now I'm trying to set up service with a different company and they said that the number has to be re-activated by the original company in order to port the number.

The local phone company is very stingy with their numbers.
If you want to keep the same number, call your local company and get new service. Request your number (don't tell them that you had it before). Request a dial tone and nothing else.
Call the company that you want to switch to. Give them your dial tone number and tell them you want to switch over.

Hi! I was able to transfer my number from one company to the next with no problem. Maybe go online to the FAQ's of whichever company your switching to, send them an email? Good luck. :)

You should be able to use your old number. Especially if it was in your name. You may have to contact your old phone company.

it fairly is not possible or maybe criminal to alter a telephone from verizon to at&t, through fact verizon doesnt use a SIM card. you could easily swap a telephone from t-cellular to at&t and vica versa through fact they are the two GSM telephone. so right here is the deal- t-cellular and at&t use SIM enjoying cards, and are basic to swtich networks with one yet another, yet having to unencumber your verizon telephone and bypass with the aid of that tough technique (which wouldnt artwork) in simple terms isn't mandatory. at&t has GSM and verizon has CDMA, so it could be impossible to alter. at&t is a great community (I even have it :-)), and that i recommend in simple terms getting a clean telephone from at&t BTW, at&t has rollover minutes, so which you definetelywant to purchase an at&y telephone

It depends on where you are moving. If you are moving to a different zone, then yes you have to change.
