Phone Pfreaks are to telephones what hackers are to computers. All you can do is watch yourself when people people you don't know call with odd requests, like telling you they are in jail and are allowed the one call, but they mis-dialed your number and could you please dial a certain number because they know that it will transfer them. What it does is give them total control over your phone line, which they then use to make long distance calls.
There are a lot of variations, check them out at scambusters.
And just use common sense and practice good judgment.

hang up after and dial *57 and after 3 calls it will stop - I use to work for the phone company !

get a phone answering machine and if they are true friends they will leave a message or tell you to pick up if not don't answer that is what I do as well as caller ID
