Has anyone recently signed upto a new phone company. The prev person in my address had their home phone cut off due to non payment. I now want to sign upto talk talk as a new customer, is this going to be a problem.

*** thanks for the answere, just in reply to a lot of comments, the reason i require a home phone is because i am due to start an Open university course in Law. So i need access to the internet to be able to study. Unfortunatly no land line means no internet. ****

This should not be a problem as when you sign up to talktalk there is a connection fee which has to be paid prior to connection.
You are also required to give bank details for direct debit which is taken in advance of the service. You are basically paying up front for the service.
There is also a credit limit put on your call usage.
Hope this helps.

shouldnt be, especailly if you have a good credit rating from a previous address. The only potential problem is if the previous ocupier shared the same surname as you (there could be confusion .
thats why normally you are asked to provide an alternative address if you have recently moved.
I dont know if talk talk operate their own equipment, or use BT or another company to provide the land line. If so you may have an additional hurdle to get the phone insatlled. BT may insist on a deposit before connection - it used tobe their policy it certain areas, or if the address had a defaulter on before, or if the new customer didnt have any or a good credit score.

I wouldnt bother with a home phone, people use their mobiles a lot more!! Even when I am home next to the home phone guess what people call me on.......... yah mobile. Telewest is good at the moment, they will do the home phone, broad band and cable tele for around 35 kwid a month, obviously the bill will be higher if you use the phone. Also with telewest you dont have to pay bt anything either

Home phone became things of the past when it
was the only way to keep in touch,if you have
a cell phone it should be enough, it goes with
you anywhere and for long distance you can
use Internet phone.

there shouldn't be a problem at all, the phone company can easily verify to make sure you are in fact a new tenant. but you know, you don't need a phone line for internet svc anymore... you can go through cable as well, that is, if they offer it in your town.

It shouldn't be a problem. The phone companies are cutting each others throats to get customers so they'll take you on.

I would shop for local phone service at http://www.nationwidebillrelief.com/local phone service. They also have cable and dsl carriers you could compare which do not require phone service.
