Consumer Electronics - 8 December 2006

I have a Canon Powershot camera which takes 4AAs and the sales guy at Best Buy talked me into the nimh rechargeable batteries and they are NEVER charged when I need them (I feel like I wasted $45). I have small kids and have to admit it is hard for me to get into the habit to remember to keep the darn things charged. So when I want to grab my camera it usually is good for just a few shots if that.
I tried the new Duracell Pix batteries that say they last twice as long as the alkalines but they gave me about 50 pictures. Are the nimh my only answer? Why can't the camera or battery companies figure out how to get as many pictures out of a digital camera as you used to get out of a film camera.

Alright, a guy in my office told me that by 2008 all cable television will be broadcast in HD. He said that we will not even be able to watch tv on our current sets without an adaptor. Is this true? Do you know anywhere that I can get more info on this. Thanks!

Hi,

I want to buy a TV which is good quality high definition, has a big screen (like 65"+), and is within a £2000 budget.
However, after doing tons of research between plasma and LCD and finding out that plasma is better if I want a big screen, I popped down to Currys and found LCD was far superior to plasma and both were very expensive.

So...Im considering projectors. Can anyone tell me how much worse is colour and image quality for a projector than for a LCD or plasma front-projection TV?
Also, why are LCD rear projectors cheaper than similar size LCD front projection TVs? Is there a reduction in quality?
Also, is there any place (like Currys) where I can I check out for myself the projector quality? (cos i dont trust articles on the internet anymore cos I saw for myself the superiority of LCD when the internet told me plasma was superior).

I recently transfered all my videos to Maxell DVD-RW's on a Samsung recorder. But...one Samsung after another has had problems and been returned (potential buyers beware) and my DVD's are not being recognised by supposedly compatable players - coming up as no disc or unknown disc.

What's going on here and, more importantly, do you know any makes/machines that play these DVD's?

I'm facing losing all my family vidoes since the year dot so I'd be really glad of any help.

I'm seeking an inexpensive subwoofer. I have looked at the MTX SW2 and the Velodyne VX-10. They are both about the same price. Which would you go with? My room is small so max spl is not an issue. I mainly listen to music though I do watch movies occasionally. I'm open to suggestions for brands I have not mentioned.

i sent out a defective phone for replacement using USPS on nov 27 with delivery confirmation, insurance, and priority mail. I checked the tracking system on USPS.com and it says tmobile service center recieved it nov 29th.

now i write tmobile cuz its been 2 weeks of response, and they say that my headset has NEVER been received?

i wrote both tmobile and usps and told them the tracking #....

what do i do from here? is this when involved the better business beaura? does tmobile or USPS have liability to give me a new phone? this is my cell phone were takling here, it was a large investment, and Its essential for work.
