i've been wondering how to rePAIR windows, not reINSTALL windows. will somebody please tell me the directions on how to do that? we have a lot of invaluable info on our comp, and we do not, at all costs, want to lose it.

If I upgrade my windows to Vista from 2000, will the Trojan virus that is on my computer still be there or will it also be deleted with all the other files? And will it be on the files that I backup? Thanks!

Just got this HPpavillion and it came with windows vista. Problem is im having trouble with my internet connection when I try to surf it's really slow and most the time it just drops the page and gives me "Navigation error" page like if I was disconnected. When opening a webpage with imagine it d/l's a few of the and the rest come out as "x". Most the time it won't let me open google or any other webpage. Im using 2wire DSL modem w/ 1gig connection but its still slow browsing and downloading. Can't seem to fix this problem even tried all the procedures posted everywere such as deactivating IP/TCP setting on connection and hasn't worked either. Also have deactivated firewall and nothing. Any help with this problem will be greatly appriciated, thanks.

i want to revamp my desktop, im thinking about getting a dual core 64 bit cpu and motherboard. i have windows xp x64 pro that i have for my laptop.
can i use that version of windows to start on my desktop and just buy the vista upgrade, and avoid buying the whole vista operating system?

i have most of the windows running in the maximized option, but when i click on any links i get a normal window and i want a maximized window. it use to run everything in the maximized mode. any ideas. no dragging the window into a maximized size will not work. closing that window last, first, in the middle, won't work. there has to be some registry key involved. thanks

basically, MS windows XP keeps trying to boot up, does so after about 10 minutes (which is rather long) then it BSOD's me.

does anyone have any ideas, it also does the same thing with safemode,

any ideas? or am i just going to have to reinstall it.

(unfortunatly my family can't seem to grasp linux, which doesn't have a habbit of breaking every month)

I have been using Nero 8, but sometimes my video files that I add do not play back on a dvd. I burned one today that I got off the internet and when I played it back, it just rolled on the screen. Does this mean that the video was not formatted right?
It is so aggravating because I waited for hours for it to burn, and then it didn't work right. I am confused because I have burned other DVDs and they turned out fine. HELP!!!

There's no sound coming from my computer, I seem to had tried almost everything, and even my "Sounds And Devices Properties" is a shaded area, like it's off, and how do I turn this on? In run I typed in "dxdiag" and on DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I tested the sound and I hear it from "SoundMaxDigitalAudio" music plays, so there's no speak problem. I don't know that much about computer's. How do I find out if it's the device driver, or mixer device, even on media player it reads" Window media player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly" This computer is a "Dell Dimension 1100" If it's in another program, how to I find out which on and correct this program to its orginal program, Etc.

This just came up again, its my sister's computer, but what suggests do you recommend?

I want to buy a new laptop but I could save a lot if i bought it with no OS. I have an unopened XP disk from an old desktop but it says on it "for re-installation only" and that the installation Key has been built in to the old desktop so no key is provided. Can I use the XP key retreival utility (http://www.updatexp.com/xp-key.html) to find the key from my old desktop and use that? Or would it work typing in one of the keys people are accidently posting on-line with their Belarc Advisor reports (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Windows+XP+Professional%22+%22Belarc+Advisor+Current+Profile%22+key%3A)
I just want to make sure before I buy the new laptop that this will work.

I am using a Mac with OS X ver10.4.10
Frequently I will lose the ability to rename folders and files. I can't click once on the name bar and it highlights and turns into a box as if ready to rename. But then when I try to type a new name nothing changes. The keyboard is fine and connected. I can't even copy and paste a new name. What causes this and is there a better way to prevent this glitch rather that having to restart.
