There's no sound coming from my computer, I seem to had tried almost everything, and even my "Sounds And Devices Properties" is a shaded area, like it's off, and how do I turn this on? In run I typed in "dxdiag" and on DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I tested the sound and I hear it from "SoundMaxDigitalAudio" music plays, so there's no speak problem. I don't know that much about computer's. How do I find out if it's the device driver, or mixer device, even on media player it reads" Window media player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly" This computer is a "Dell Dimension 1100" If it's in another program, how to I find out which on and correct this program to its orginal program, Etc.

This just came up again, its my sister's computer, but what suggests do you recommend?

Thanks for you help!

windows xp: right clik on myComputer>manage>devise manager>sound, video and game controler>right clik on AudioDrive (ESS 1887 plug & play or similar)>click on disable(careful, do not click on uninstall), once it is disabled make it enable again (this action will resets and refresh the audio drive properties). exit and try the audio.

if problem exists try this:
right clik on volume icon on task bar> adjust audio properties>hardware> AudioDrive (ESS 1887 plug & play or similar)>properties> 1) at general tab make 'use this device (enable). 2)properties tab> audio devices>Ess audio properties>make a check in at 'use audio features on this device. 3) at resources tab tick in 'use automatic settings' and ok-exit.

You have to install device drivers for the chipset (or music card-with this card you have to get and installation CD) installed on the motherboard. For win media player you'll find devices on the installation CD for internet connection (if you're get this CD from provider). I got installed AVI Rack i.e. To check what devices you got installed go in Accessories, Sound Player, Sound Mixer. There you'll see what actually you got installed but for win media player you need different devices (for .mp3 and .wav format). Veradisca & Best Regards, Neven.
