I uninstalled a program, DesktopX, because it was acting weird.
whenever i ran it something about Microsoft Visual C++ popped up.
Hoping uninstalling and reinstalling would solve the problem, i uninstalled it.
It it told me I had to restart my computer.
So i clicked ok, but someother pop up came up.
It had two options 'quit' or 'don't quit' (it wasn't the "there are more than one user logged in, are you sure you want to restart your computer?")
i didn't get a good look at it and i just clicked quit.
everything restarted, however whenever I go into "My Documents" folder every document is gone and when i opened iTunes i had to reinstall it and every single song and playlist was gone.
my trash wasn't empty. when i clicked empty trash it said "are you sure you want to delete WINDOWS?"
i clicked no because i know the WINDOWS folder is important, but when i double-click or explore on the recycle bin, there is nothing there.
I restarted my computer and the WINDOWS file isn't in the recycle b

I need to test some software on reading and indexing large quantities of files. So, I am looking for a copy of those types of files.

The files will be used only for building a large automated test environment so I don't care what's in the files.. as long as it's real files.

Interested these in files type:

I have an older machine running Windows ME that I want to upgrade. The hardware is plenty capable of running XP but is not powerful enough to run Vista. The Microsoft site indicates that you can use the upgrade version (rather than the more expensive full version), if you currently have ME, but I cannot find whether you need the original disks or some kind of activation code for ME. My operating system came installed on the machine when new and does not have separate ME disks... only an "emergency disk" to put the system back in out-of-the-box condition, which I assume has the ME software.

If I buy the Windows XP sp2 "upgrade" package, will it detect ME on my machine and install, or will I have to have had a stand alone boxed version of ME with the original disks to be eligible to use the XP Upgrade version?

ok so on my internet browser this tab comes up everytime and it says "PRIVACY ALERT" and it says like all this gross stuff and shows pics and it says like this was found on ur hardrive and like it says u are at risk click here and it has spyware downloader is this harmful to my computer? how do i get rid of this tab thing w.o downloading spyware?

i've asked before, and, well maybe there are some more ideas....
i have a gateway celeron, with windows xp....if i am using it, and don't move the mouse for a short time..(bathroom trip..) the pc will be locked up and i can't do anything...i hqave to turn it off by holding in the start button, then restart it..
i have spysweeper and norton anti-virus and run them often...any help i thank you...

I think I had this Science Fiction theme when I had Windows 98. The screen saver was very bizarre. It had 3 (or 4?) of these weird flying things that absorbed into each other. The background was sort of a reddish, orangey planet landscape. Does ANYone remember this? And if so, how can I get it again? I now have Windows XP home. I thank you in advance!

my computer was installed with original windows home xp. without the installation packaging and the sticker, how can i know my product key number? this product key is useful for upgrading, licensing and validation purposes, but i cannot find it anywhere. is there some kind of computer command that can extraxt the number? or some kind of other way to know it?

I downloaded it twice to be sure I didn't accidentally download the 32 bit version. It's supposedly for XP Professional x64 Edition. However, when it's running the task manager shows it as a *32 process. It also automatically installs to the x86 (32 bit) Program Files folder. Is Microsoft just pulling my leg by offering a x64 version?

I'd like to have it run as a 64 bit application since there are so few apps that seem to support x64 as it is. It would be nice if the ones that actually do (supposedly) support it would take advantage of it. It might help me feel like I upgraded from xp Home to x64 for a reason.
