Windows XP repairs itself. If you have not tried System Restore, that is the best avenue. Otherwise, you can go to Start -> Run -> type "sfc /scannow" -> and it will check and make sure all the Windows files are the same as they were when they were installed. Make sure to leave a space between "sfc" and "/scannow", and don't use quotes, of course. :)
