First, let me tell you the meaning of "default" in computer science. A default, in computer science, refers to a setting or value automatically assigned to a computer program or device, outside of user intervention. Such settings are also called presets, especially for electronic devices.

Default values are generally intended to make a device (or control) usable "out of the box". A common setting, or at least a usable setting, is typically assigned.

This means that a default program in Windows XP is one that is used "out of the box." For example, if you click on a file named, "Readme.txt" the default text viewer program will open- called Notepad. If you double-click on My Computer, the default file manager program will open- called Windows Explorer. If you want to visit www.yahoo.com, you'll most likely open Internet Explorer, which is your default Web browser.

So, lets say you have Itunes as your music player and Windows as your music player. One has to be your default program, so choose the one you rather use, which will be your default Music player...

Have a nice day.

take care.

a default program is the program normally used for a particular task.usually if you dont choose a default, one will automatically be assigned to you by the system or a program.for example;;;if you order a turkey and cheese sandwich, they will automatically give you american cheese;;because its the default cheese- unless you specify "swiss" cheese.
