Go to control panel and select power options. Set turn off monitor, turn off hard disk, and system stand by to never. Go over the the hybernate tab and disable it. Now back in control panel click displays, and go to the screen saver tab. In the screen saver box select none, or if you forget to turn you monitor off when you not using it, set the wait time to 20-30 minutes. Restart your computer and see if it still does it. If you computer is low on resources, power saving options can really slow it waaaay down when it tries to hybertate or go into standby.

You have two immediate problems I see..... One is that you have a Celeron processor...... it's an 'efficiency' chip. Nothing wrong with it - but it has a limit with speed and some applications - also burns hot.

Two - is that you have Norton running - it's notorious for slowing down your computer, stopping things from happening, etc. I have taken it off of several computers and wha-la - speed again.... there are a lot better antivirus programs out there - a free one that is great and has a good reputation is AVG - or you can get a free one from roadrunner if you have cable.

Also, if you have 256 mg of ram - you have a real problem - that in combination with the Celeron - could really slow down your computer. Upgrading to 512 will help as XP truly requires 512 to do anything.

I sent back Norton after it crashed 2 of 3 computers running XP with a poison pen letter to Symantec..... used to be the best - now.... it "aint that great".....
