Recently the power went out for about an hour at my house, and my computer shut down. Since I restarted it, I've had invalid/expired certificate alerts, that I have to click several times, pop up when I use the internet. I've gone to internet options and checked "use SSL 2.0" and "use SSL 3.0", unchecked the "warn about expired certificates" box, updated the date and time on my computer, downloaded the latest version of my browser (Avant, which is almost exactly like IE), installed computer updates, and restarted my computer. I'm still getting the certificate alerts. How can I get rid of these for good?? They're driving me nuts!!

I don't mean how they work as a pair, one being public and the other being private and only the private one will decrypt the encoded message etc. I mean HOW can they work as a pair? Is there a simple example of exactly what might happen?

I have a version of IE prior to 7.0. I upgraded to 7.0 then reversed to the prior version. Reputable web sites that say they are secure do not display the Secure Symbol (Lock) at bottom or anywhere. I am afraid to use these pages to transmit sensitive credit information. My question is--is the symbol somewhere that I can access it? Is there any other way for me to verify the security of the page besides seeing the symbol?

I recently purchased a new laptop with Vista on it. I bought a Norton AV 2007 which I need to upgrade on the Web to make it Vista compatible.

The problem is Live update will not work. I have tried to uninstall Live Update and Norton itself but it keeps telling me Live update is running in the background and I should wait for it to finish etc I think the error is LU 1825.

I have waited the 1 hour Norton recommends before trying to run LU again but it has not worked.
Is there any other way other than uninstall programs I can use to delete it and start over, my virus definitions are 1 month out of date.

I am actually thinking of loading Windows XP cos I am fed up. Somebody help. Thanks
