Recently the power went out for about an hour at my house, and my computer shut down. Since I restarted it, I've had invalid/expired certificate alerts, that I have to click several times, pop up when I use the internet. I've gone to internet options and checked "use SSL 2.0" and "use SSL 3.0", unchecked the "warn about expired certificates" box, updated the date and time on my computer, downloaded the latest version of my browser (Avant, which is almost exactly like IE), installed computer updates, and restarted my computer. I'm still getting the certificate alerts. How can I get rid of these for good?? They're driving me nuts!!

You need to reset the time on your system clock.

Certificates are validated by the time that they are issued, among other ways. If your system time does not match the time given by them, you will receive that warning.

You are also going to want to go and pick up a new battery for the computer. There is a small silver coin type battery attached to the motherboard of your computer. This battery keeps information such as the correct time saved in the event of a power outage. Since the system time reset the way it did, the battery is probably bad.

It sounds to me like you have picked up a virus or more likely some spyware on your machine. In general any kinds of popups that refuse to p--- off are spyware of some kind. Download Spyware blaster, spybot search and destroy, ad-aware personal and windows defender. They are all free for personal use and should kill any adware critters and keep them out. Try that and see if it makes any difference.
