I use aim, msn, and yahoo. I send copies of my most important mail from 1 to the others. Yahoo=2Gb., MSN=2Gb., and AIM=2Gb. With yahoo and MSN, I pay the $19.95 per year each for the plus mail.

The best bet is to export your data to a separate drive; another network computer, USB drive or burn it to a CD.

To export your Outlook data, go to FILE, IMPORT AND EXPORT. Then choose EXPORT TO A FILE and click next. Choose PERSONAL FILE FOLDER and click next. Now choose the folders you want backed up and check the box to include sub-folders. If you want to backup everything, just select the top folder "Personal Folders" and the box to include sub-folders. Click NEXT.

Choose the place you want to save it. If you are going to burn a CD, I recommend placing it into the My Documents folder first, then burn the CD from there. Click Finish. Then you will get a window asking to make a PST file, click OK.

Depending on the amount of mail and contacts you have, it can take a little while to finish and during the export may slow your computer down.

Hope that helps!

Be more specific Outlook express or Office Outlook, there is a difference.

To back up your Outlook express email goto run and paste the following into the run field
( or browse to it where %username% is your username, if you know it, better to just paste the line into run if you don't know). C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Identities\

You should see {some numbers and letters} in a window. Open the folder. You will see many files here that is your outlook express email. Copy all these files to a different folder or cd/flash drive to back them up. Make sure outlook express is closed first. Take note of the address in the address bar for future reference as you can just browse there from explorer next time.

For office outlook 2003 browse to or paste the line into run:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

Copy these files to a different folder or CD/flash drive to back them up. Make sure outlook is closed first.

Your outlook express address book is located at
C:\documents and settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
if you want to back that up

To back up your office outlook contacts visit this microsoft office webpage:

There are some free software packages which will do all this for you but i don't know their names.

If at any time something happens and you need to restore your mail you can go to the FILE and then IMPORT and follow the instructions from there to restore the email.

Also try this website for more info.

P.S. You may need to change your folder options to view hidden files and folders to be able to see some of the directories mentioned.

I think Acronis True Image is the best solution for you. It will backup you emails, contacts, accounts, settings and other stuff so you will be able to restore your data anytime you want. True Image has a feature Acronis Secure Zone. It is a hidden partition on your HD where only True Image can store backup images. The best way is with a automatic off-site backup.
