Security - February 2007

I want to update my NAV on a computer that's not connected to the internet. I know already how to update the virus definition file manually by downloading the virus definition file update.

But how do I update the others? I know when I'm using Live Update (on my office computer that's connected to the net) there are many things to update. How can I download the other updates and update them manually like I update the virus definition file?

I recently installed the new Yahoo! Toolbar 7.0.2 (upgraded from the previous version). When I launch the Norton Spyware Scan from the toolbar and tell it to check for updates, it says all the software and definitions are up to date. It also tells me that the definitions were last updated on 10/26/2006 - that doesn't seem very up-to-date to me (today is 2/14/2007). It shows software version 2.0.98.0 and definitions version 10333.

Is Norton Spyware Scan a "dead" program or is something wrong with my Yahoo Toolbar install? I don't rely on this as my primary anti-spyware app (I have Spy Sweeper for that), but I use it for a "second opinion". I'm just wondering whether it has been abandoned in this version of the toolbar or whether there's something I could do to fix it. Yes, I know I can use Yahoo! Anti-Spy (at least it updated its definitions on 2/11/2007), but I found the Norton Spyware Scan to be an improvment over Yahoo! Anti-Spy.

Any thoughts on this topic?

My friend said that he needs some proxy websites. I told him that I will find some soon. He doesn't have a computer. I need a ton of websites because the school blocks websites like crazy. They even block websites that are educational. Please help and thanks for the advice. I'm saying thanks now because I might forget.

I can't believe I fell for it!! I opened up an AmericanGreetings Valentine Card and clicked on the link to get the greeting. POOF, my computer hasn't been the same since. I seem to have contracted an apu.exe worm which I cannot get rid of even with all my virus protection software. Anybody know how to delete it. I've tried several times and it keeps coming back.

HELP!!! I've never fallen for these scams before ... but I guess there is always a first time.

Either spyware sweeper or nortan anti virus popped up on my computer saying a program was trying to install and my computer was at risk. It said the program is called iexplorer. I have not used a WEP code or other security code with my wireless router and have left it unsecured so all the people in my house can use it easily (we are sharing the cost). Are we in danger of getting viruses or other problems? It's a NTL cable internet connection if it makes any difference. Thanks.

I was able to check my mail through the seconday icon (on the right hand side of the Yahoo home page) but, the regulators have discovered this flaw and have blocked it too. Is there any other way to get pass these blocks and check my email?

my dad has put iNet protector on the computer, so as the internet shuts down at 10:30 every night

anybody know of a way round it

i cant change the time on the computer clock as it has blocked that, and cant remove the program due to the admin of the computer now being my dad

if you know of a discreet way to get past this, can you PLEASE gimme some help

if its not discreet, chances are the internets gonna get shut down for good.

Had Norton 2006,worked well no problems.Expired.Bought 2007 and not satisfied how it was working-slow,slow etc.
Uninstalled it.Installed Zone alarm 2007-no good.Uninstalled it,bought Panda 2007-not working due to my best program Webroot.Uninstalled Panda.
What to ?What other program should I purchase?McAffee?Do not like to download free programs as i heard about hiddenspyware.

If someone gets hold of my hard disc, will they be able to see every mail I wrote on yahoo. If so, what will it look like, will it appear like the yahoo page, including how many letters are in my inbox etc... or will it be like a word document or otherwise?

Ok its happened to me twice today. Ive noticed that the taskbar on my Windows XP computer just randomly happened to look like Windows Classic. When I click on start, the menu is fine however the bar isnt. Ive also noted that some of the search results Ive had on Google are slightly weird e.g. when I searched "How to be neat" it gave me things like "43 things" which I doubt are top searches.

Ive got Nortons Antivirus 2005 as well as Ad Aware Personal. both of which are old editions. Ill also run a Windows Live Safety scan from the website to be sure. Any other suggestions? I dont really want to go out and spend loads of money on software, yet neither do I want to have a dead computer.

What do u I think I can do? Is this just a normal problem?

I installed McAfee security Center. Scottrade Elite will not run, despite opening 443, adding the IP address given and allowing elite full rights.
Anybody else have problem/solution?
Scottrade TS pointed to McAfee, McAfee points to Scottrade.
Any help appreciated
