Other - Computers - November 2006

I am assuming it is the fan in the back that gets loud every time the internet is accessed. Sometimes no one is even using the computer and it gets even louder. This computer is less than three years old. Anyone have any ideas? I highly doubt it is because of anything stored on the computer or downloaded on the computer.

Im having a problem when i plug in any USB device it comes with a AutoPlay option that doesnt make sense. Below is a link to a screenshot of it.

Ive used a program that is supposed to remove unwanted auto play options but it dosent come up with the one im having a problem with. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
(I early installed Fire Fox 2.0 but uninstalled it later so could that of caused it as my Opera browser has added one too)

to rewrite audio files. Because I previously had a cd rewriter, if its possible to rewrite audio files will I be able to play the dvd disc on my dvd recorder etc.

so i went on this site which had some pop-ups and after a while my computer went silent.

i'm running windows xp home edition

i have antivirus installed and running, and also did a sweep with ad-aware

basically there is no sound coming out of the computer anymore, not the clicking while surfing the net, not the music playing on win media player, nothing.

the volume is NOT on MUTE or TURNED ALL THE WAY DOWN, its all the way up, on BOTH the computer and speakers.

i went to SETTINGS then SOUNDS PROPERTY and all the setup seems to be fine.
i went to DEVICE MANAGER and there are NO EXCLAMATION MARKS anywhere.

i restarted the computer and still no sound, not even when windows starts or shuts down (you know the sound)
I also restarted in safe mode and that did not fix anything.

if i turn my speakers all the way up, then press the MUTE on the computer I can hear a little click, which is normal when the speakers are all the way up.

what can it be? its motherboard sound.

i need to format my C drive; can't do it from the ms-dos command prompt in windows; ms dos mode is not listed in the startup options - only windows modes are listed (safe, debugging etc)

Recently I started getting a message almost every 15-30 minutes on my computer saying "Server is busy. Switch to or Retry". I have not added any programs or made any changes to my computer. Does anyone know if there is a way I can find out what is causing this message to come up? Like I said, it has just started happening in the past few days and I have not made any changes to my computer.

I've had a new computer built, it's got 2 new hard drives in Raid 1, from which it boots up from. I've also had the hard drive from my old computer installed. How can I run programmes that are installed on this hard drive from my old computer? I've tried moving the programme file to the new hard drive, but that doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions? Hopefully you won't tell me to alter the drives so it boots up from the old one!

Over the summer I purchased a laptop cooler. This worked so good, the fan would stay off. About a month ago, I had a problem with my computer and brought it to my campus computer center. They said they found viruses and whatnot and fixed it. After I got it back the fan would constanly run. They deny they did anything. I hate that they are always on because I bring my laptop to class and its so noisy compared to everyone elses. The laptop is about 3 years old and it is a compaq. I tried to use air in a can but that didn't help. Do any stores (Best Buy, Staples, etc.) clean the dust out of computers? If so how much does it run? Any other suggestions? Could tech help screwed up my computer?
