I am assuming it is the fan in the back that gets loud every time the internet is accessed. Sometimes no one is even using the computer and it gets even louder. This computer is less than three years old. Anyone have any ideas? I highly doubt it is because of anything stored on the computer or downloaded on the computer.

fans wear out.
I don't know what it has to do with the internet, but usually a computer fan will only last 2 - 3 years. You should get it (the fan) checked, cleaned and repaired or replaced.

Spikey's answer might be the right one. Sometimes there are two fans, a big one for the power supply and a little one for the hard drive. A fan that's always been noisy is probably always on as opposed to turning on and off as the computer heats up and cools down. The good thing is that it is cooling at its maximum. The bad thing is that it is noisy, especially now that it's dried out after 3 years. You can replace the fan yourself but first, open up the CPU, clean out any dust, make sure the screws haven't loosened up (which might cause it to vibrate). Maybe you can charge up a Starbuck's card and trade your computer guy for some work on your box. (Put plenty of $$$ on it because those computer guys live on strong coffee).

The fan maybe going bad Is the fan moving slow. If you are mechanically inclined you could replace it your self. The fan runs constantly. Computers generate a lot of heat and the fans run to keep it cool. A computer will accumulate a lot of dust on the inside. You can vacuum them out by removing the case and using a vacuum sweeper to get rid of the dust. You have to be careful when vacuuming it out. Do not touch anything on the inside. Vacuums create a lot of static electricity, which can blow your chips.

You may have dust in one of the fans. You can buy canned air, then disassemble the tower and blow out all the lint. Most of the time this helps, although I have had to replace a few fans that had bad bearings too.

Vacuum it out. It might be accumulated dust. Make sure it has breathing room. The fan will run more if the space is warm. If it is misaligned, it should be serviced or replaced.

I used to have the same problem. it usually turns on when the items inside your cpu overheat... but then it would do it very often. after opening the cpu, i noticed that it was very dirty inside and the air couldnt come in as easily as bfore. try cleaning the airways so it can cool down faster... and make sure not to mess up the connections inside. good luck!
