I am getting an MBR error on my computer as soon as I boot up. I am getting advice that this indicats an error with a partition on my computer.

1. How fixable is this?
2. What is the chance that my data is able to be recovered?
3. If it can't be recovered can I still get the computer in working order again?
4. I'm fed up with PCs, my boyfriend lost his data to a partition error 6 mos ago. Should I switch to Mac, how often do Macs really "crash" or am I just having a string of bad luck!?

Need answers, especially 1, 2 & 3! Thanks!

well i ordered my very first build last week. And well only a couple had arrived today which was the psu, case, mobo. I wanted to test the fans and psu so i connected it to the mobo. I connected the mobo to the case/psu but the mobo did not include any screws but the case did. So i used the screw but i didnt know at the time that i was suppose to use the golden risers i thought i could use them as the screws. So i placed the mobo on the case. Am i screwed? IM really scared and i wont really know until i get the rest of my stuff tomorrow. THe case is ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208009 oh and i also had to hold it from the bottom because the anti static bag was tight but i did ground myself before i did

I have a 40 GB hard disk in my laptop computer, and I plan to upgrade it to a 160 GB disk. Since the form factor shall remain the same, I believe that this 160 GB disk shall have more number of platters compared to the 40 GB disk- meaning thereby that the platters are closer in the 160 GB disk. Since my usage involves slight shocks and vibration, does this increased closeless of platters make the 160 GB disk more susceptible to damage due to shocks/vibration?

To put it the other way, is there increased risk of disk heads colliding-with or scratching the platter surface because of increased closeless of platters?

I'm looking for an inexpensive solution for monitoring temperatures in my vacation house remotely (200 miles away). I'd like to be able to hook the device up to my router (which is always on) and be able to check the house or outside temperature via a web browser. Recording capabilities or multiple sensors (temp, humidity, rainfall) would be nice but not essential.

Has anyone had a good experience with any such devices. Please supply device cost in your response. I'm ideally looking for something under $150.
