I'm looking for an inexpensive solution for monitoring temperatures in my vacation house remotely (200 miles away). I'd like to be able to hook the device up to my router (which is always on) and be able to check the house or outside temperature via a web browser. Recording capabilities or multiple sensors (temp, humidity, rainfall) would be nice but not essential.

Has anyone had a good experience with any such devices. Please supply device cost in your response. I'm ideally looking for something under $150.

What I would do to go cheap, would be to connect a Logitech webcam to a PC and point it at an indoor/outdoor/humidity thermometer that you can get from Radio Shack or the like. I would also include in the webcam picture, a clock that shows the date and time so that you knew for sure that you are reading the present time/date. Some indoor/outdoor stations have the date and time included. I'm sure you could do this for under $75. You would have to have a PC at the vacation home on UPS, or setup so that it would come on when power was available and automatically start the webcam and whatever else you needed. I would probably use an old 486 or P233 era PC to keep costs down.

I have seen some build-it-yourself weatherstations, but it takes some electronic knowledge to solder it all together.

Just tossing out alternate solutions...
