This is mainly due to driver problem. Go to Support and Download section of you motherboard manufacturer and download the latest version of driver your vista and install it.

it's a driver problem and that's a problem because vista was produced to make all the older hardware obsolete so you probably won't find a driver for vista. why not just dump vista and get one of the linux distros?

install the drivers from it. they usually came with the cd for your motherboard or from your recovery cd. if you don't have them, look for the sound card's manufacturer and go to their website.

Why on earth did you put vista onto your pc. It is the satan of all operating systems. any one who upgrades to vista deserves all the problems that go with it.
