I would need a more complete list of your hardware, I just installed it on an old AMD Sempron 3300+ system with 1gb of ram and it works perfectly! But all the components of this system are high quality, like an Abit motherboard, ATI X850XT video card, Creative Audigy LS sound card.

You can, but it won't run particularly well, especially if you're running Home Premium (Aero) or better. Vista, as I'm sure you know is a system hog. 1GB of RAM is okay, but 2GB is ideal. Your CPU is okay, but again not exceptional . As a rule of thumb it takes about the amount of hardware to run Vista as it does to run XP as well as you are currently experiencing.

all of that has nothing to do with it it all depends on your bios if it is not in the correct format or update your computer could be ruined and you would need to reformat your harddrive to windows whatever which i have had to do before so make sure you have the right bios first
